The Bedford 20-5390 is a direct-fit replacement for the Graco 24A261 check ball kit used in the Merkur LW025A and LW050A displacement pumps, supplying the 440 stainless steel piston and intake balls that seat the pump on each stroke.

Check balls absorb the full impact of every stroke reversal, and a ball that no longer seats cleanly costs output on one half of the cycle. Spray technicians replace them as a set during any wet-end service, since a worn ball will quickly damage the seat it lands on.

Common reasons for replacement:

  • Output falling off on either the upstroke or the downstroke while the other half runs normally
  • Pump continuing to cycle slowly under a closed gun instead of holding pressure
  • Flat spots, pitting or a visible wear ring on the ball surface at inspection
  • Difficulty priming, or repeated loss of prime after the pump has been sitting
