Sizing a carbide insert
Carbide inserts use the same numbering as the tips they go into, so a 515 insert matches a 515 tip:
- Last two digits = orifice size in thousandths of an inch. A 515 insert has a .015" orifice.
- First digit × 2 = fan width in inches at about 12" from the surface. A 515 sprays roughly a 10–12" fan.
Match the family as well as the number. A standard, fine finish, low pressure, and line striper insert of the same nominal size are ground differently and are not interchangeable.

What is a carbide insert?
It is the carbide element inside a reversible spray tip that forms the orifice and shapes the fan. Because it is the part that wears, replacing the insert restores the rated spray pattern without buying a complete tip assembly.
How do I know which insert size I need?
Use the number on your tip. The last two digits are the orifice in thousandths of an inch and the first digit doubled is the fan width, so a 517 tip takes a 517 insert. Also match the family — standard, fine finish, low pressure, and line striper inserts are ground differently.
Do I need a new tip guard when I change tip families?
Often yes. Standard-barrel and large-barrel RAC X tips use different guards, so moving between those families means a different guard. Moving between standard and fine finish tips does not, since both use the standard barrel.
What thread size are the extensions?
Most airless guns and extensions in this range use a 7/8" thread, and each product page states the thread it carries. Check that figure against your gun before ordering, especially when mixing brands.
Why is paint leaking around my tip?
Usually the tip seat and seal. That seal is a consumable and flattens with repeated tip changes; replacing it is far cheaper than replacing the guard or the gun's fluid head.
Are these genuine OEM parts?
No — Bedford parts are compatible replacements, not genuine Graco, Titan, or other OEM parts. Each is manufactured to OEM-equivalent dimensions so it fits and performs like the part it replaces, at a lower price.
